Variables (preoperative evaluation)

Diabetes: diet-controlled, oral therapy, or insulin dependent diabetes.

Vascular disease: peripheral, abdominal vascular pathology or operation.

Lung disease: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/history of previous lung disease.

Between MI: history of MI between the first operation and the reoperation.

Operative status:

Elective: Stable cardiac function, usualy scheduled at least 1 day prior to the surgical procedure.

Urgent: Surgery is required within 24 h after admission.

Emergency: Evolving infarction, ischemia not responding to medical therapy, or cardiogenic shock.
